Whether it’s a small step or a large step, every step you select to take is a step towards your future. Lao Tzu said ‘a journey of a thousand miles must being with a single step.’

As we start with a new type of year it makes me wonder whether we need to look at what we want from our own lives differently. The 10th October, 2010 (10/10/10), the 11th November, 2011 (11/11/11), and more recently the 21st December, 2012 are known to be ‘spiritually enlightening days’ with the 21st December being referred to as the day that the world will end. End or end as we know it? Whether you were taking one step at a time towards the world ending or the world changing, you were taking one step at a time towards your own future.

We are nearly one month past this date, and I’m wondering … has the world changed?

When I look back at the past month I’m seeing some really positive changes in my own life. After a few years of battling financially, within another few weeks working with friends/colleagues of mine I’ll be involved in launching two new businesses. One has taken me back into the IT world and another is within the coaching world. Throughout my career I’ve always allocated time to earn an income … time working with clients … time coaching clients … time mentoring clients … whereas now these new businesses, although working within each business will take time, my involvement won’t be based on allocating time to work with clients; more allocating time to work through tasks and actions.

With all the spiritual changes that are also happening around me, it would be easy to just stop and wait to see what is happening. George Carlin said ‘when you step on the brakes your life is in your foot’s hands’. He is right.

A friend of mine was made redundant just before Christmas. It was one of those situations where you had to re-apply for a job within the organisation if you wanted to stay with them. She re-applied, and although she was the instigator to a new line of business for them with a healthy income; she didn’t succeed. Speaking to her this week highlighted that when life is just wandering along we can step on the brakes.

Experiencing the changes in this world today, she’s starting up a new venture! Three guaranteed streams of income with only four emails.

C.S. Lewis said ‘what saves a man is to take a step. Then another step.’ Each step that you take is a step towards your future.

Now the question is … is this the future you want, you dream of, or is this the future that someone else has planned for you?

‘Peace is a journey of a thousand miles
and it must be taken one step at a time.’
Lyndon B. Johnson

We are going into interesting times and without realising it I’m seeing the future I designed and decided upon gradually come to fruition, even though I haven’t consciously planned each step. It reminds me of a time when attending an entrepreneur’s boot-camp, one of the presenters explained that he had found a picture of the house he wanted to buy. He put the picture onto his vision board in his office/study. Although it was visible to him each time he walked into the office/study, after a period of time he stopped ‘seeing it’. Moving house a few years later, he took down the vision board, rolled it up, put it into a cardboard tube and packed it away with the rest of his office/study packing. A few years after this first moved, he and his family moved again – the cardboard tube was packed and moved with them. Another move and he decided that rather than just put all his paperwork and office/stuff material and paperwork away, he wanted to go through everything. This would give him the opportunity to really decide if he should keep it or not. He came across the cardboard tube. Opening it he was surprised to find his vision board – through the years of living in different houses, he had forgotten about it. Imagine his surprise when he unrolled it and found that he was now living in the house he has pasted on his vision board all those years ago. One step at a time he had moved towards living in the house of his dreams!

As we go into the start of this spiritual transition, if you haven’t made that decision, now is the time to decide what you want your future to be!
